Brooke's Books

Hello Everyone! It's been quite a while since anyone has posted on here. Alisha and I tried to keep it going, but life happened and things got busy. Lately, I started thinking about this blog and how fun it was for everyone! We had all kinds of reviews and contests with people interacting with one another. It was a good community for those who loved to read. This is why I would like to announce that I have started up my own blog, Brooke's Books. It's not nearly as big as Alisha's website and it's just starting up, but I'm putting up a lot of the same kinds of reviews on my blog. So if any of you were missing the content on Alisha's blog, you should look up my blog here . I'll be announcing weekly releases (as I used to), book reviews, and other fun features I'm working on. I'm not sure if it will be the same as Black Nailed Reviews, but I think it will be a fun experience! I have missed writing and have missed all of you readers as well. I hope y...

Review: Succubus Dreams (Georgina Kincaid #3) by Richelle Mead

Title: Succubus Dreams
Author: Richelle Mead
Series: Georgina Kincaid
Book #: 3
Pages: 296
Reading Level: Adult
Book Rating: Photobucket
Goodreads Rating: 4.20
Published: Aug. 30, 2008

Some days, a girl just can't catch a break. . .

. . .especially when the girl in question is Georgina Kincaid, a shape-shifting succubus who gets her energy from seducing men. First there's her relationship with gorgeous bestselling writer Seth Mortensen, which is unsatisfying on a number of levels. It's not just that they can't have sex in case Georgina inadvertently kills him (generally a turn-off for most guys). Lately, even spending time together is a challenge. Seth's obsessed with finishing his latest novel, and Georgina's under demonic orders to mentor the new (and surprisingly inept) succubus on the block.

Then there are the dreams. Someone, or something, is preying on Georgina at night, draining her energy, and supplying eerie visions of her future. Georgina seeks answers from Dante, a dream interpreter with ties to the underworld, but his flirtatious charm only leaves her more confused--especially as the situation with Seth reaches crisis point. Now Georgina faces a double challenge--rein in her out-of-control love life, and go toe-to-toe with an enemy capable of wreaking serious havoc among mankind. Otherwise, Georgina, and the entire mortal world, may never sleep easy again. . .

Taschima's POV:

Holy shit. Did that really just happen?

As always, once I get into Georgina's world there is nothing and no one that can keep me away. The instalments are utterly captivating, and I swear that they will keep you well entertained. Georgina is just the kind of woman we all secretly and not so secretly want to be, full of confidence and basically full of life, but she has her fucked up side as well. I can't really believe things went down the way they did, but by the end of the book I was so frustrated, my chin literary hit the floor- I mean, I guess it what happened was going to happen eventually, but you never think it will actually happen you know?

In these kinds of adult romantic books there is always a lot of different things going on -which is why I find them so compelling- between the relationship issues, and the demonic issues, and the inner dialogue of Georgina it all adds up for an incredible time of just you and about another 10 imaginary people.

Demonic issues: Interesting, but come on, not as interesting as the romantic issues. Georgina has a new evil to take care of, and also a squeaky new Succubus to mentor.

Oh Georgina... I feel ya girl. I am sorry, but even though she is by nature incredibly slutty I can't help but just want to be like here, a little. In this retrospect, I guess if I were going to be a character in the series my personality is more aligned with Maggie- Georgina's friend who is an introvert but who really tries to come out of her shell. Georgina is Serena in Gossip Girl combined with Buffy the Vampire Slayer combined with Hannah from Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Kick ass + the life of the party + expert in the sack= extra entertaining!

Now her relationship with Seth always seemed to me very sweet. They are in love in all, and I really like to see Georgina happy, but in this instalment Seth fucks up royally. After this book I don't know or think I can be team Seth again, but at the end of the day we always want what makes our main character most happy, and that I guess is Seth. It is a complicated thing, but I do think we could venture out of Seth territory, let's see with the next instalment
Okay, serious discussion time, I know that Georgina cheats on Seth sexually all the time by nature, but she kind of has to do that, and he knows. It isn't like she fucks her friends or someone they both know and think of as being their acquaintance. But Seth? To go and have sex with Maggie? A girl Georgina adores and thinks of as her friend? That was just wrong. She told him he could go out and do his business if he needed, but not with close friends! That was inconsiderate and stupid and asshole-ly. Georgina is not perfect, but he just fucked up royally in my eyes, and I support Georgina's hellish spiral and acts of bitchiness afterwards.
Now for the future of the series... I am excited. This whole potential "loophole" that might be in Georgina's contract is just... too good to be true? Maybe, am I still anxious to find out if it is actually real? Hell yes! Full steam ahead!! Time to read Succubus Heat!

Bookish Question: Reading Stats

How Many Books Do You Read? In a year, what is your set challenge? Do you even set a challenge? When you create an account on Goodreads every year it asks you if you want to set a "challenge" for yourself. How many books do you cant to read a year? Last year I challenged myself to read 80 books. I read 76. I think my initial intention was to read 75, but then I got cocky. The year before that I also challenged myself to read 75 books and read 76. 2011's Challenge... I dont even want to talk about it. The truth is every year I didn't have a game plan. I just read for the sake of reading. Because I love it, because I wanted to immerse myself in another person's world. This year is slightly different. I finished College, graduated, and got a part time job (finding a full time job is a pain in the butt). So I have the time. Most importantly, I have a plan.      Every week I try to read 3 books. I started this recently, since I got my part time job. With 26 weeks left ...
