Brooke's Books

Hello Everyone! It's been quite a while since anyone has posted on here. Alisha and I tried to keep it going, but life happened and things got busy. Lately, I started thinking about this blog and how fun it was for everyone! We had all kinds of reviews and contests with people interacting with one another. It was a good community for those who loved to read. This is why I would like to announce that I have started up my own blog, Brooke's Books. It's not nearly as big as Alisha's website and it's just starting up, but I'm putting up a lot of the same kinds of reviews on my blog. So if any of you were missing the content on Alisha's blog, you should look up my blog here . I'll be announcing weekly releases (as I used to), book reviews, and other fun features I'm working on. I'm not sure if it will be the same as Black Nailed Reviews, but I think it will be a fun experience! I have missed writing and have missed all of you readers as well. I hope y...

Summary

Thirteenth daughter. Heritage witch. Demon slayer.

They say every town has its secrets, but that doesn’t even begin to describe Whispering Pines. The townsfolk are a superstitious lot and the mystical disappearance of a local teen has everyone murmuring about a centuries old witch’s curse…

Sixteen-year-old Shiloh Ravenwolf is a heritage witch from the Broussard family, a family both destined and cursed. After she takes a summer job at Ravenhurst Manor, she discovers a ghost with an agenda. That’s where she meets the new town hottie, Trent Donovan. But Trent may be the next victim on the supernatural hit list, and Shiloh is the only person with the power to save him.

Complicated much?

After receiving cryptic messages from a creepy wraith, and then frightening threats from a demon, Shiloh finally begins to understand the mysterious significance of the strange mark branded on her wrist. Now Shiloh must decide how much she’s willing to sacrifice to protect the other teenagers in town.

Unfortunately, for Shiloh, not all ghosts want help crossing over. Some want vengeance

Review

Plot: Shiloh Ravenwolf is a girl whose always been a bit different. Kids at her school treat her like an outcast, spreading rumors that she is a witch. She has a few good, close friends but sometimes that isn't enough. Ever since an unfortunate incident, Shiloh has been seeing things. Shadows in the dark. But now they start getting more dangerous than just shadows. Then there's Trent. He's a complete distraction for all the stress of demon hunting. When her friends start to disappear one by one, Shiloh realizes she's going to have to learn how to stop the demons before it's too late.
Character(s): Shiloh is a bit weird but it's a good thing. She deals well with being an outcast and is used to it. Sometimes it's hard to read her though. She seemed so strong and independent, I never would have guessed she like skirts and bright pink boots. But sometimes her ever changing mind is what keeps the story so interesting.
Cover: The cover is what pulled me in the most. Out of the books I've been reading lately, this was the one I was most excited for. It was a bit creepy and ghostly but also somewhat elegant. I like the font of the lettering and I think the girl on the cover is perfect.
Closing Thoughts: I'm giving this book a three out of four nail polishes. I loved the plot and the romance and all the surprising twists. My only complaints were that sometimes the author would add something completely shocking and the character almost seemed to shrug it off. I would be sitting there with my eyes wide thinking "oh my gosh" and the character would be like "oh" and move on. Sometimes I felt like the characters would accept things too easily. Also, I think Shiloh acted a bit young at times. I found myself imagining a twelve year old in her place. But I kind of liked that at the same time so it just depends I guess. I really liked the creepiness of this though! I didn't go into this thinking I would be spooked at night. But I was! Definitely going to read more from her.
